13 Feb : Preneet Kaur, Union Minister of State for External Affairs, inaugurated Udaan, the annual conference of Rotary International’s District 3090, on Saturday at Law Auditorium in Panjab University.
While appreciating the efforts of Rotarians in her inaugural speech, Kaur said that the most important task ahead is that the coming generations be provided good conditions of development including health and education since the future is in their hands. “I expect that the Rotarians will work in that direction,” she said. Talking about the efforts of environment conservation, she said, “I have seen water conservation projects going on in small countries very efficiently. Rotary should also advocate such projects.”
While addressing the Rotarians, Raja K. Saboo, former president of Rotary International, who was the chief guest of the occasion, said that the biggest religion is the humanity. He appealed the people to serve the society. He also shared information on Rotary International projects going on in various parts of the country. He also said that Rotary advocates mission of world peace.
Shubh Karan Gupta, former governor of the District and member of National Polio Plus Committee, said that the government is incomplete without NGOs. We are committed towards the advocacy of the projects.

In the evening, famous Punjabi singer Dolly Guleria was honoured by Rotary. She also presented a programme on the occasion. Qawwals from Pasla near Jalandhar regaled the audience with their performance at the dinner hosted at Lake Club.
