By : Archit Watts, Chandigarh, August 10 : Radio autos – Tricity TukTuk, a 24-hour auto service, first ever in India was launched by UT administrator, SF Rogridgues at the state transport authority (STA) office here today.These specially furnished autos are pink in colour and equipped with global positioning system (GPS), which would be driven by both male and female drivers.
These pink autos have costed Rs 40,000 extra as compare to any ordinary auto.To get avail of this service, customers can call the vehicle to his door steps, by dialing an easy call at 4242424 number, or stopping it on the road, or taking it from the earmarked stand. The autos, pink in colour, will charge Rs 10 for the first Km and Rs 8 for subsequent kms.
Speaking on the occasion, General Rodrigues said that the launching of this new concept is part of the multi-dimensional empowerment programme for the below poverty line persons, scheduled castes, physically challenged, women and members of minority communities.
He also said that the ISBT Sector 43 would be the nodal point of pink autos, ISBT has been made fully functional equipped with all modern facilities for commuters.UT administration asked the LPG Auto Operators’ Union to be active partners in this endeavour.
UT Home Secretary, Ram Niwas, Chairman & Managing Director, Delhi Finance Corporation, X. K. Mahto and Secretary, STA, Vandana Disodia were also present there on the occasion.
