CHANDIGARH August 18: Drawing a chuckle from a statement issued by a rag-tag bunch of nine Congress MLAs, Shiromani Akali Dal general secretary Prem Singh Chandumajra today said the nine Darbari Ratans who rushed to vouch for the sound mental condition of Capt Amarinder Singh only proved that the former CM was at the mercy of not even the second rung leadership of Punjab Congress but is now forced to cling to ‘third rung’ limpets masquerading as psycho-analysts.
In a statement issued here, Prof Chandumajra said, "It is surprising that while nine MLAs are certifying his fit mental condition,Amarinder Singh has not been inspired enough to speak for himself and re-assure fellow Punjab politicians that he is not rushing to find some Pakistani nurse for sustained treatment."
"Is that the reason why no first rung or second rung leader of Congress has come to the aid of the man who hallucinates about himself as a ‘Maharaja’ and wants his followers to address him as such?" he said. Prof Chandumajra congratulated the Congress MLAs for choosing just the right Urdu couplet for Capt Amarinder Singh’s benefit – Abbi to
ibtidai ishq hai, rota hai kya, aagey aagey dekhiye hota hai kya – but regretted that the best recipient of such meaningful poetry may not be currently in India and might have gone to Pakistan where Urdu is more popular.
Prof Chandumajra said while Amarinder is expressing his gratefulness to 10, Janpath for creating an apology of a slot for him as ‘Campaign Committee chairman’, the people of Punjab did not let go lightly of the very first opportunity to put their stamp on Sukhbir Singh Badal’s leadership and sagacity by ensuring a thumping win for the Akali Dal in the recently-held local government elections.
The fact that it took no less than nine MLAs to vouch for the psychic stability of Amarinder Singh, is proof enough that Sukhbir’s fears about Amarinder’s mind are not unfounded. Had the Akali Dal president been wrong, it would have taken just one sane MLA to put to rest all doubts among the people about the resident of what Congress MLAs privately call Patiala’s ‘Fool’s Paradise.’
Chandumajra said he had never earlier heard of the psycho-analytical skills of the nine Congress MLAs whose names have appeared in the statement. "However, I am sure they could not have chosen a better specimen to practice their hands on as Amarinder Singh is a fit case to study how bad hallucinations can be. Who else can live in a palace in a democratic country?" Chandumajra asked.
