Chandigarh , 23 August : The Faculty of Science of Govt. College for Girls, Sector-11, Chandigarh organized a One Day Seminar on “Emerging Interactive Sciences: Road to Global Development”, in collaboration with Department of Science and Technology, UT Administration, Chandigarh today. Mrs. Promila Kaushal, Principal of the college welcomed the Chief Guest Prof. R.C.Sobti, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh.
In his key-note address Prof. Sobti said that in order to empower India and make her a Global player we need three I’s i.e. Scientific Integration, Scientific Innovation and Scientific Invention. He further stressed that all sciences have to join hands together to bring national development and human welfare as today’s requirement is all-round knowledge, which can emerge through interaction amongst various sciences.
Dr. Lalit M.Bharadwaj, Dy. Director and Head Biomolecular Electronics and Nanotechnology, CSIO, Chandigarh while talking about ‘Bionanotechnology and Hybrid Devices highlighted that the convergence of nanotechnology with information technology, modern biology and social sciences will reinvigorate discoveries and innovations in almost all the sectors of economy. He gave examples of the devices developed by CSIO that will find application in electronics, life sciences, medicine, space, defence, bio-warfare, security etc.
Prof. Ravi Shankar, from IIT, Delhi remarked that concept of questioning the prevailing scientific assumptions is pivotal in understanding many intriguing aspects of modern innovations in the field of Chemistry, medicinal chemistry and drug-design, material chemistry and micro-electronic devices etc.
Dr. I.S Dua, Chairman, Botany Department, PU, Chandigarh made a Presentation on Emerging Interactive Sciences: a source of jubilation or jitters. It was a journey of Biology into the exciting field of Biotechnology as a product of Classical Biology, Geology, Physics, Chemistry, IT and Bio-Physics wherein it has transformed itself to answer the subtle mysteries of life operating at molecular level and in turn are maneuverable.
Prof. S.K.Kulkarni, Dean University Instructions, PU Chandigarh in his Valedictory address brought into fore the need for an interaction in sciences as he felt that this could serve as a road to global development. He emphasized on the creation of a new wisdom to synergize all the natural sciences and emerging technologies to create interfaces that will ensure unforeseen improvement in the quality of life in all spheres of environment, economy and efficiency.
The students and faculty were highly benefited by the presentations of the eminent scientists and many doubts were cleared besides the revelation of new dimensions in the interactive sciences.
