Chandigarh August 29 : The Education Department, Chandigarh Administration today honored the outstanding sportspersons of 53rd National School Games 2007-08 and other events onthe National Sports Day, on the birth day of hockey wizard Major Dhyan Chand at Government College for Girls in Sector 11 here today.
Chandigarh Home-cum-Education Secretary Sanjay Kumar was the chief guest and presented gifts and certificates to the sportspersons including internationals. Wg. Cdr. Satish Bhatia, Gurdishpal Singh, Satinder Walia, Sumiti Kanwar, Suman Malhan, Rama Kant, Parminder Dhillon, Prema Saini, Atul Kapoor, Manjeet Singh, Capt. G. S. Sidhu and P.S. Sidhu were honored.
Education Secretary also gave away gifts and certificates to the medal winners, from various schools. The Chandigarh students won 8 gold, 7 silver and 15 bronze. Visually impaired students from the Institute of Blind who participated at 4 th National Athletic meet for the Blind held at Ludhiana brought 8 gold, 13 silver and 10 bronze medals were also honored by the chief guest.
Director Public Instructions (S), Mr. S.K. Setia announced increse in refreshment rates from Rs. 4 to Rs. 15 per day and the outstation refreshment rates and during camp had been fixed to Rs. 50 per day. He also congratulated all the PTIs /DPEs and Lecturers Physical Education who have worked tirelessly for achieving a great success.
