CHANDIGARH, JUNE 20:Youth Football Club, Sector 48 will face Kings VIII in the final of the KV-48 Eight-A-Side Football Tournament tomorrow at 11 a.m. at the Banyan Tree School ground here.
In the semi-final matches played today, Kings VIII edged out KV Football Club with an aggregate 6-5 margin in tie-breaker after sharing two goals in the regulation period and Youth Football Club defeated Ayappan Team by two second-half goals after a barren first half.
Youth Football Club and Ayappan Team were evenly balanced. Both teams had opportunities to score but their forwards were wayward in their shooting in the first half.
However, Youth Football Club launched their attacks with redoubled vigour and their efforts bore fruits in the 40th minute when Pankaj gave his team the lead. Hardly had the cheers of their supporters died down when Rakesh made it beyond double with a fine goal in the 45th minute.
In the second semi-final, KV Football Club drew the first blood through Harsimran Singh foxing Kings VIII defence with an accurate shot in the 15th minute.
Going all out for equaliser after resumptio, Kings VIII hit back and their forwards moved upfront with proper coordination. Arjun Kundra neutralised the lead midway through the second session. Tied one-all, the tie-breaker rule was applied to resolve the deadlock. Kings VIII converted all their five penalties through Gursimran Brar, Alesk, Gobind, Puneet and Arjun Kundra.
Jaswinder, Ripudaman, Xavier’s Mathews and Harsimran converted their spot kicks for KV Football Club. Vikramjit Singh wasted his penalty. Kings goalkeeper Uday Singh Dhillon and KVFC custodian Anmol Jakhmi displayed good skills under the bar.
Earlier, Ayappan-47 defeated United-38 by 7-6 on penalties in sudden death. Ayappan’s scorers were Puneet (2), Vikram Maan (2), Vipul (1), Johny (1) and Ajay (1). Sabby, Alam and Jatin scored two goals each for United-38.
In another match, KV Football Club routed Sonix by 7-1 after leading 3-0 at hafl time. The winners’ scorers were: Gurjot, Vaibhav, Himneet, Cheanpreet, Harsimran and Aman (1 each). The face-saving goal for Sonix was scored by Shakti.
