Chandigarh, February 11—A complaint box would soon be placed at each district headquarters of the State to receive complaints regarding Excise and Taxation Department and action would be taken by the senior officers of the department on the complaints so received.
This was disclosed by Excise and Taxation Minister, Haryana, Mrs Kiran Choudhry at Gurgaon today.
She said that only those complaints which have names and addresses of the complainants would be considered. She said that collecting more revenue was the aim of her Department, as development works were undertaken by the government with the revenue. Besides collecting revenue, the State Government was also making efforts to provide facilities to the contractors. A complaint box would soon be placed at each district headquarters to deal with the complaints of the contractors and receive their suggestions. Any contractor could put his complaints with his name and address into the box. Action on the complaints so received would be taken by the senior officers of the department and she herself would also examin the complaints on monthly basis.
Mrs Kiran Choudhry said that a meeting would soon be convened with Mr Ranjiv Dalal, Director General of Police to discuss the modalities to curb smuggling of liquor. Making the facilities of the department online was among her priority. Unless the facilities of the department were online, cent per cent transparency in the working of the department could not be ensured. The revenue of Excise and Taxation Department had increased from Rs 1400 crore to Rs 2200 crore during the last two years and a target had been set to collect revenue about Rs 2100 crore during the year 2010-11.
Earlier, the Minister received suggestions from various liquor contractors regarding Excise Policy 2011-12 and also heard their grievances. Wrong doings in the departments would not be tolerated at any cost, she added.
She urged the liquor contractors to cooperate with the government in revenue collection and the state government would leave no stone unturned in providing facilities to them. The contractors complained to the Minister regarding illegal sale of liquor meant for selling in CSD canteen. On this complaint, she assured the contractors that she would take up the matter with Defence Minister.
