Chandigarh, Oct 10- Haryana Police will set up Women Helpline which would have a distinct phone number and would be functional round-the-clock.
Haryana Director General of Police, Mr Ranjiv Singh Dalal, who reviewed the implementation of directions issued by the Police Headquarters regarding crime against women through a Video Conference, today, with all district Superintendents of Police, Range Inspectors General of Police and Commissioners of Police asked them to set up the Women Helpline at once. He also asked them to give it wide publicity through print and electronic media, he added.
The District Officers also gave an account of all the steps taken by them in their respective jurisdiction including progress in carrying out village touring, action against Vagabonds, action against drinking at public places. The officers were asked to hold joint meetings with District and Sessions Judge, Deputy Commissioners and District Attorneys to remove hurdles in the way of quick trials of serious crimes against women.
He said that all out efforts would be made to check all possibly preventable crime against women. A special monitoring cell under Additional Director General of Police, Law and Order has been set up at Police Headquarters to whom all District Police Chiefs will report progress of the day between 10.30p.m. to 11.30p.m daily.
Mr M.S. Mann, Additional DGP/Law and Order, Mr K. Selvaraj, Additional DGP/Crime, Mr Mohd. Akil, IGP/Law and Order,Mr Subhash Yadav, DIG/Telecom were present with Mr Dalal during the video conference.
