August 16, 2008 :Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister accompanied by his wife Smt. Sheela Dhumal, called on Smt. Prabha Rau, Governor at Raj Bhawan today. Smt. Rau tied Rakhi to the Chief Minister on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.
Smt. Rau said that Raksha Bandhan was a sacred occasion and was an inseparable part of Hindu culture, which represented the commitment of brother towards the sister. She also felicitated the women folk of the State on the occasion and wished them bright future.
Earlier, representatives of Brahma Kumari Organization, Shimla and Tibetan Mahila Sangh also called on the Chief Minister at his residence and tied Rakhi.
Chief Minister thanked the womenfolk, who called on him from various parts of the State on the occasion. He wished them a prosperous and happy life and reiterated the commitment of his Government to provide a healthy and secure life to people by providing transparent and efficient administration besides maintaining law and order in the State.
Prof. Dhumal said that State Government was committed to protect the interests of all the sections of the society especially, the vulnerable sections. He said that the Government was taking effective steps to provide ample opportunities to women of the State and had provided them various benefits like holidays and free traveling facility on special occasions like Raksha Bandhan and Bhaiya Dooj. He said that Government was also committed to protect the interests of single women in the State and would provide them opportunities to lead a respectable life in the society.
Sh. Ganesh Dutt, President Shimla District BJP and other prominent people of the town were present on the occasion.
