26 Sep :A meeting of the Northern Zonal Council will be held in Shimla on Monday. It will be chaired by the Union Home Minister, Shri Shivraj Patil. The issues to be discussed at the meeting include internal security, police modernization, communal harmony and disaster management.
The meeting is likely to be attended by the Chief Ministers of Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and National Capital Territory of Delhi, Governor of Jammu & Kashmir and Administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh. The last meeting of the Northern Zonal Council was held on 25th October, 2005 in Shimla.
There are five Zonal Councils which act as advisory bodies to provide common meeting ground to the States and Union Territories in each zone.
