21 Dec : One person was killed and three others injured when the Kalka-Shimla holiday special train derailed at a village in Dharampur on Sunday, about 60 kilometers from Shimla.
The engine and two bogies of the narrow gauge train, launched on Saturday, derailed near Non village at about 8:30 AM after "hitting stones" lying on the tracks, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Ambala, H K Jaggi said quoting eye-witness reports.
Jaggi said, "we have talked to people who have already reached there and I have been told that the train hit two stones after which it derailed."
"One locomotive and two coaches came off the tracks. One person has died in the accident. He was apparently travelling on the foot-board and fell down due to the jerk," the DRM said, adding that a confirmation with regard to the cause of the accident would be known after an inquiry.
The injured have been admitted to Dharampur hospital.Eye-witnesses said that the man killed looked to be in his late twenties. His identity is yet to be established, railway sources said.
