Jammu : Laक्ष्ya 2010-11, the two-day Business Festival, was inaugurated with great fervor and enthusiasm at The Business School, University of Jammu, which is celebrating its Silver Jubilee year of MBA. Prof Varun Sahni, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu was the Chief Guest and Mr Atul Kansal, COO, TataTele Services Limited, J&K Circle was the Guest of Honor for the inaugural function. The inaugural function was attended by the Heads of various departments, University Professors and Officials from administration, Deans, Directors, Faculty Members from participating institutes, Research Scholars and the students. The MBA teams from The Business School, University of Jammu, Department of Management, Kathua Campus, The Business School, Bhaderwah Campus, School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, University of Jammu, SET Business School, Mahant Bachittar Singh College, MBA Department, MIET, The Business School, University of Kashmir, The Business School, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, MBA Department, Islamic University of Technology and Sciences, College of Management, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra are participating in various activities during the two day fest.
Prof Varun Sahni in his inaugural address talked about harmony between three mantras for advancement in life as ‘COMPETITION, COLLABORATION and CREATIVITY’. To emerge as winners in life, he exhorted students to take advantage of the dynamics of competition and socialization simultaneously. Prof Sahni said that the dynamics of competition help in raising of standards and further emphasized that socialization and collaboration together result in conformity. He said ‘Ideal is important and so is the achievable’. Prof Sahni also highlighted the current partnership approach being followed by State Universities on many fronts like student placements.
In his address, Mr Atul Kansal, Guest of Honour, shared the goals / “Lakshya” of the TATAs, a brand built over last 140 years and whose legacy still continues, touching the lives of millions in India and across the globe. ‘Nothing is impossible, provided the killer instinct is there’, he said while addressing the participants.
The ceremony began with the Saraswati Vandana followed by the welcome address by Prof Neelu Rohmetra, Director, The Business School. While welcoming the participants, the Director acknowledged the contributions of all her predecessors in the Silver Jubilee Year of establishment of MBA in The Business School. The purpose of such events according to Prof Rohmetra is to promote harmony and unity that are cardinal for growth and advancement, besides creating a learning platform to exhibit and demonstrate the spirit of Unity in Diversity, in an ambience which is competitive, yet healthy and graceful.
Prof. B C Sharma, Dean (Placements) presented the formal vote of thanks. He also highlighted the placement initiatives for attracting employment opportunities for students of J&K.
The activities conducted during the day were QUEST (Business quiz) and MBA’ians got TALENT. Mr Tajinder Singh, COO, Bharti Infratel (J&K), presided over QUEST. Mr Ajay Khajuria, Circle Marketing Head, AIRCEL, Mr Siddharth Arora, Cluster Head, BIG 92.7 and Ms Kanu Pathania, Legal Manager, IDEA Cellular Limited were the guests during MBA’ians got TALENT. QUEST was coordinated by Ms Mohita Abrol, Senior Marketing Manager, Aircel. TBS Team I (Sandeep Gupta and Yousuf Ul Umar) and TBS Team II (Tushar Sawhney and Taresh Baru) emerged as the first and second prize winners respectively in QUEST followed by SHTM team (Richa and Vishesh) stood third in the Business Quiz. The activities during MBA’ians got TALENT included Solo and Group performances. Ms Neha Jamwal(TBS, University of Jammu) won the first prize in solo performance category followed by Govind Singh(Dept of Management, Kathua Campus) and Adil(TBS, University of Kashmir) as the 2nd and 3rd prize winners respectively while in the group performance category, MBS Team emerged as the first prize winner and TBS, University of Jammu and SBS, Islamic University of Technology and Sciences won 2nd and 3rd prize respectively. Bharat Mahajan and Geetika Kohli, MBA final year students from TBS conducted the proceedings of the inaugural function.
Later, The fest continued with thrilling performances by two most popular Music Band groups of J&K, SUPER SOLITUDE and INSANITY.
