The two day Business Fest-Lakshya 2010-11, marking the Silver Jubilee year celebration of TBS, University of Jammu, concluded here today with an grand ceremony. The dignitaries present at the valedictory function were Prof. R.D. Sharma, Dean Academic Affairs, Dr. P.S. Pathania, Registrar, University Of Jammu, Prof. G.M. Bhat, Controller of Examinations, University of Jammu and Sh. Harvinder Pal Singh , Business Head , Aircel, J&K circle.
The concluding session began with the welcome address by Prof. Neelu Rohmetra, Director TBS where she gave a detailed account of the entire two day Fest. She also expressed her satisfaction and delight at the successful culmination of the event.
The valedictory address was presented by the Chief Guest of the occasion Prof. R.D. Sharma, DAA, JU. He congratulated all the students participating in the fest for keeping the spirit of competition alive. He also mentioned TBS as one of the icons of the University of Jammu and gave a message, “Those who participate contribute more than those who are winners.”
The Presidential remarks were made by Dr. P.S. Pathania who pointed out that in the era of competition The Business School emphasizes the spirit of collaboration.
Prof. G.M. Bhat, Controller of Examinations, JU presented his special remarks and ensured a whole hearted support to all the future endeavors of The Business School.
Sh. Harvinder Pal Singh, Circle Business Head, Aircel, J&K circle also encouraged all the students for such inspirational events crossing all obstacles that come in their way.
The Two-day Fest included various events that were designed to test the knowledge, the business and financial acumen as well as the cultural inclination of the MBA students representing the various business schools across the State including Business School, Kashmir University, Islamic University of Science and Technology, Avantipora, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, Rajouri. The Business School, University of Jammu and various other Business Schools of the State.
The second day of the fest was marked by thought provoking and stimulating Finance focused business games. Money Managers and Tetromino where in the participants exhibited their managerial expertise and skills.
On the Event ‘Tetromino’ (A business plan competition) based on the theme ‘Resource Recycling’. four teams participated namely – TBS, University of Jammu; TBS, University of Kashmir; School of Business Studies, Islamic University and DMS, MIET, Jammu. During the event, each team presented a detailed business plan on the theme.
The team represented by Basil Mohammad, Adil Makhdoomi, Zubair Nabi, Tawqeer Hussain from TBS, University of Kashmir emerged as the winners. They presented a business plan on recycled corrugated boxes. The team represented by Zeeshana, Afshan Gazi, Khurshid Mir and Rafie Malik from Islamic University stood second and they presented an idea of processing rotten apples into healthy cattle feed. Finally the team from TBS, University of Jammu represented by Rohan Saldhana, Sandeep Gupta, Neha Bhan and Geetika Kohli stood third and they presented a business plan on the concept of creating an organized scrap recycling channel.
The Judges for the event Tetromino were: Mr. Vikram Gupta, CEO, Airmesh; Mr. Gaurav Sharma, Interface Technical Head, Oracle (China) and Ms. Shikha Chopra, Associate, Goldman Sachs (USA).
Ten Teams participated in the event, Money Managers, where in the participants were put on live share trading in the share market building an investment portfolio. Students made use of real internet research and news updates, making the simulation a mirror of the real market place. The competitive game play created student excitement and helped them learn more about investing. The event was judged by Mr. Ajay Kapoor, Director, Share Khan. The team comprising of Akhil Suri and Lovely Jamwal hailing from SET Business School won the game.
The students from various Universities also expressed their sentiments about the event, appreciating the fantastic hospitality, good management and the open hearted welcome extended to one and all. They considered all the participants as not only friends but also future partners and complimented the TBS for working as ‘One Team One Dream.
Prof. B.C. Sharma, Dean Student Placements, JU made the concluding remarks and acknowledged the contribution of one and all in making the event a huge success.
