14, June:In an emergency meeting of the JURSEA serious notice was taken of a group of certain individuals have been leveling certain allegations against the University Community. JURSEA has taken serious note of the fact that although these individuals have claimed to be students of the University, it well known that some have long ceased to be students of the University and actually run Dhabas. JURSEA has also taken serious note of the fact that none of the issues raised by this group has anything to do with Students’ issues.
Instead this group has leveled unsubstantiated allegations on financial and administrative matters of the University. This raises suspicions that this motley group which is led by a Dhaba owner is actually a front for external forces and a disgruntled and microscopic minority in the university administration that do not have the interests of the University at heart and have been unable to digest the advances made by the University especially in the last few years.
What the JURSEA finds particularly offensive and completely false is their allegations of academic degradation. This is completely untrue and insulting to the students’ community particularly that of the research scholars which JURSEA represents. It is well known to anyone who cares to see, that academic quality has visibly and significantly improved especially when it comes to research. To take a small example, the performance of the research scholars in the UGC-NET examinations where we compete nationally has been sensational especially this year.
Ordinarily the JURSEA would not take any notice of allegations of a group led by a Dhaba owner although we respect his/their right to free speech. But we suspect that there are deeper forces at work here. This supposedly students’ group has disgraced and insulted the students of the University of Jammu for its own petty gains. As an elected body and the representative group for students particularly the research scholars, the JURSEA has a responsibility to the University Community as well as the future students to guard against efforts to destroy this institution of which we are part. The timing of these ridiculous charges comes at a time when classes end and the attention is maximum research activities. These charges and actions only serve to damage our efforts to produce research output.
The JURSEA therefore condemns the actions and utterances of this Dhaba-walla led group and warns the University Community to guard against the forces that would destroy the University of Jammu as we know it.
