Bhopal:Thursday, May 13 :The Madhya Pradesh State Cooperative Dairy Federation has started a campaign ‘Doodh ka Doodh Pani ka Pani’ to detect adulteration in milk in the state. After Bhopal, the campaign is underway in Indore, Jabalpur, Gwalior, Ujjain and other districts. During the adulteration detection test campaign it was found that water, harmful chemicals like caustic soda and others have been mixed in milk.
According to information received, teams of quality control and marketing section of state dairy unions are checking free of cost daily adulteration in milk purchased by the people at different towns of the state. During the checking campaign it has come to fore that consumers who purchased unpackaged milk were buying sub-standard and adulterated milk at higher prices. This way the consumers are unknowingly duped by the milk vendors. The samples collected by the team found that in almost all samples water is the main element of adulteration.
According to information received from the Managing Director of MP State Milk Union, the team tested 42 samples collected in Gwalior recently. Out of them 33 samples were found adulterated. In one of the samples it was found that caustic soda, which is very harmful to health, was mixed in milk. In two samples salt was mixed. In four samples it was found that sugar was mixed in them. In the remaining 27 samples of milk it was detected that water was mixed in them.
In Indore the team had so far taken 50 samples of milk. Out of them 50 per cent of samples were found that they were of sub-standard quality. Out of 119 samples taken for test during the last four days in Jabalpur, 50 were found of sub-standard while 25 samples of a total 31 taken for testing in Chhindwara were found of sub-standard.
