Bhopal:Sunday, February 7 : Farmers’ Welfare and Agriculture Development Minister Dr. Ramkrishna Kusmaria has said that Indian system of farming has the solution to all the problems of human beings. What is required is integrated efforts for conserving our ancient agriculture system. Agriculture Minister Dr. Kusmaria was addressing the inaugural function of administrative building of Rajamata Vijayaraje Scindia Agriculture University and soil testing laboratory at Gwalior. Describing genetically modified crops like Bt Brinjal as a danger for humanity, Dr. Kusmaria stressed the need for further research in this connection.
Agriculture Minister Dr. Kusmaria said that we have inherited solution to the problems relating to farming. We will have to give attention to organic farming, rearing cows and waste management. He said that use of chemical fertilisers has nearly destroyed our farms. We can save our fields from these ill-effects by switching over to organic farming. It is the responsibility of scientists to make farmers aware of organic farming’s benefits. Dr. Kusmaria said that our farmers are becoming subservient to big seeds and fertlisers companies. Dr. Kusmaria underlined the need for further research and studies on the subject by universities and for devising ways for economic uplift of farmers.
Director Agriculture Dr. DN Sharma said that the state government is trying to ensure mobile soil testing. Agriculture Science Centre has the responsibility to create awareness among farmers about Soil Health Cards as well as making them understand the necessity for replenishing soil with nutrients. Vice Chancellor Dr. VS Tomar threw light on the progress of the university and said that efforts are being made to provide employment to students. He also talked about starting a course on agriculture products’ processing.
Healthy soils grow healthy plants, the first step to a succesful agriculture system rests in building soil.
