Bhopal:Thursday, June 11 : With the object of focussed attention for completing the proposed medium and minor irrigation projects in Narmada Valley State govt. has constituted a separate organization. This new organization would take up works and ensure timely completion of the medium and minor projects proposed in the master plan of the Narmada Valley Development.
The new organization is named ‘Narmadanchal Madhyam Avam laghu Sichai Pariyojana parishad. The council would have a general body and executive body. The Chief Minister would be the Chairman of general body while Chairman NVDA would be the Chairman of executive body. V.C. NVDA along with P.S. WRD, PS Agriculture PS PHE , P.S. Rural Dev. P. S. Finance and Members of NVDA (Engg. Environment, Finance Rehabilitation, Power) would be Members of the executive council. The council has been registered under Firms and Societies Act.
It may be mentioned here that master plan of Narmada includes 29 major 135 medium and 3000 minor dams. The construction of major dams is allocated to NVDA while work of medium and minor dams had been allocated to water resources department. Looking at the large working area under various basins of the State, WRD deptt. was finding it difficult to give focused attention to the medium and minor projects of the Narmada basin. Because of this only 22 medium and 1032 minor irrigation projects have been completed so far. To get the desired results, a focused attention was very much needed. The new medium and minor irrigation project council would serve the purpose. The Vice Chairman NVDA Pradeep Bhargava informed that CEO would be appointed for the council very soon. The council is likely to become functional in near future.
