20 August : Along with the rest of the country, Kohima observed Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas (Renewable Energy Day) today. The programme started with Deputy Commissioner, Kohima Sachopra Vero flagging off the Renewable Energy Day Run from Indoor Stadium this morning.
Addressing the participants, Sachopra Vero said that the day is being observed to spread the message of the importance of renewable energy far and wide, especially to the rural areas. He also said that the programme is held to create awareness on the minimum use of conventional energy.
Essay and Painting competitions were held at Zonal Council Hall under the topics ‘The use of renewable energy and its impact in control of global warming’ and ‘Renewable energy’ respectively. 29 students from various educational institutions participated in the painting competition while 24 students took part in the essay competition. The judges for the painting competition were Asst. Director, (NCE) Rural Development, Mrs V. Obed Solo, Local artistes Merimvu and Khrietuo. The judges of the essay competition were DFO, Kohima, Temjenyapang IFS; Information Officer, IPR, Dzüvinuo Theünuo and Lecturer, Kohima College, Sungjeminla Changkija.
The prize winners of the competitions are as follows :
Essay Competition :
First : Thecaneilhounuo, Class IX, Northfield
Second : Noulezhanuo, Class X, Don Bosco Higher Secondary School
Third : Visede Liegise, Class VIII, Mezhür Higher Secondary School
Painting Competition :
First : Zhipuo, Class V, Model Higher Secondary School
Second : Apisa, Class VII, Model Higher Secondary School
Third : Thejozo, Class VI, Dainty Buds School.
The first two prize winners in each category will be taking part in the Inter-District Essay and Painting Competition on Renewable Energy on 12th September 2008 which will be organized by the Nagaland Renewable Energy Development Agency.
ADC, Kohima, Zeneituo Yano gave away the prizes and certificates to the winners as well as to the participants. Earlier a short speech was delivered by Project Director, (NCE), Er. Kavito Chishi. The programme was chaired by SDO (C), Kohima, Tarep Imchen.
