19 Nov : Minister for Agriculture Dr. Chumben inaugurated Meriyan village in Wokha district on 14th November 2008 as the chief guest. The Minister unveiled the monolith of the new village and addressed the villagers. He urged the villagers to give importance on the health care sector and asked the villagers to co-operate for bringing more development. He appreciated the village elders who sacrificed their best efforts for fulfillment for setting up the new village. The Minister also requested the developmental departments to extend their patronage for the development of the new village.
Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Secretary, A.E. Lotha also addressed the public and urged the villages to work hard with co-operation in their efforts for the welfare of the new village.
Among others Deputy Commissioner, Wokha A. Woben, Chairman of Shakhi village, Chairman Sankiton village and Chairman Kyong Hoho, Nyanbemo Ngullie spoke on the occasion. Presentation of folksongs by Meriyan Village Women Club were the highlights of the function. Welcome address was delivered by Dr. L.T. Tsanglao, invocation prayer was proposed by Sesumo Ovung, Pastor. Vote of thanks was offered by N. Obemo Tsopoe. It may be mentioned that the new village is located in the Nzhu valley and the land is fertile and agri-based potential area. Hence the area is often called the pocket of Canaan in Wokha district. The village is 30 kms away from Wokha town and Wokha-Bokajan road runs through the village. About 5000 people attended the function.
