22 August : ‘The aim of education is to develop capacities, talents in human nature and to co-ordinate their expression for the progress of the society by equipping students with moral and material knowledge’, said Nyiewang Konyak, Minister of School Education & SCERT Nagaland while speaking as the chief guest at the Golden Jubilee celebration of Mangmetong Government Middle School.
Nyiewang Konyak stressed on the fact that teachers must relinquish the idea that they are fountains of knowledge and wisdom, rather they should form partnership with their students in a sharing and learning process, demonstrating by their examples that they too are learners. He asserted that the recognition of hard work and motivation of teachers and students play an important role in progress of the future generation. Releasing the Souvenir of the school, he said it is worthwhile to mention that schools become a lighthouse of the society, if students are trained in an appropriate manner.
Prof. Lanunungsang, Nagaland University who was the main speaker recalled the pioneers of the school who rendered selfless services for the growth of the school. Exhortations, conveying of jubilee greetings, felicitations, ode to Jubilee, Jubilee messages and nostalgic rhythm were the highlights of the programme. The function was attended by Imkong L. Imchen Minister for Home, Nagaland, Deputy Commissioner Mokokchung, C.O 2nd NAP, government officials, public leaders, all alumni, public and students of Mangmetong.
