21 May : The Annual Convocation of the SCD Government College Ludhiana held today and around 900 students were awarded the degrees of B.Com/BA/BSc/M.A and M.Com. The Convocation was started with arrival of the “Academic Procession” which was lead by D.P.I college Punjab Mrs Jasmeet Kaur Nayyar along with the Principal of the College Mrs Jasbir Kaur Makkar. Dean Academic Affairs of the College Prof. R.K. Miglani accompanied the academic Procession towards the Convocation Hall (Sahir Auditorium). The Convocation begins with the Shabad “Deh Shiva Var Mohe ehe……….” The Principal of the College Mrs Jasbir Kaur Makkar presented the annual report of the college before the D.P.I colleges and the students. Mrs Makkar proudly announced that Panjab University has declared Government College Ludhiana as “Research Centre” to conduct PhD research in the Hindi which is the only college in the state with such stature. Mrs Makkar stated that College has great Research Potential and many of our teachers has undertaken high quality research in their respective fields. She highlighted the achievements of the college in cultural, academics, sports and extra-curricular activities.
She also presented the various students before the chief-guest, D.P.I Collges Punjab for award of “Roll of Honour” in various fields. The Prominent students which were awarded Roll of Honour include: Dilpreet Kaur (First in MSc Maths in Panjab University), Amandeep Kaur (First in MA Economics in Punjab University), Raminder Kaur (3rd in MA (English in Panjab University), Harkiran kaur (2nd in M.A Geography in Panjab University), . Many students were given Roll of Honour in N.C.C /N.SS and Sports which include: Raman Vohra, Gurvinder Singh, Mohit Khanna Manjinder Pal singh, Sanwinder Singh, Garima Jain, Shailender Kumar, Ramandeep Singh, Sushil Kumar, Anshika grover, Nitika Sharma, Ramandeep Singh, Jasmeet Singh, Mandeep Kaur, Jaspreet Kaur, Inderpreet Kaur, Rohit Kapoor, Harmanpreet Kaur, Jayant Patnaik Ramzan Ali, Jaspreet Singh, Kuljeet Singh, Rajan Sharma, Akash gill, Jagdeep Singh Manjit Singh etc.
While speaking on the occasion Mrs Jasmit Kaur Nayyar, D.P.I Colleges Punjab said that now the time has come that when educational institutions must understand their role to uplift the society. She narrated various examples of her initiatives which lead to development of the students. She said that society must contribute for the education of the poor and needy students so that they can make their life useful to the society.
