12 June : Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi suggested that External Affairs Ministry officials along with representatives of Australian High Commission should tour Indian cities from where youth have gone for studies in Australia to instill confidence among their parents.
Modi made the suggestion to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh when he met him in New Delhi.He made the same suggestion to Australian envoy John McCarthy when the latter met him.
"I met the Prime Minister and expressed my concern about the incidents (of attacks) related to Indian students in Australia," Modi told reporters.Modi said he suggested to the Prime Minister that a team of senior officers from Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) may be sent to cities from where large number of students are studying in Australia.
"This will instill confidence among the parents and guardians of the students," he said.He said the Prime Minister assured him that the suggestion will be looked into.
Modi said the Australian High Commissioner also agreed to his suggestion for instilling confidence among parents and guardians of Indian students studying there and assured him to keep on informing about the situation at the state government level.
