She may not be a mother herself but she knows what it feels like to see a child in pain … and so strong are her maternal instincts that she’s lovingly called Geeta ‘Ma’ on the sets of DID L’il Masters… So, this year, when it was time for the auditions of the second season of India’s biggest dance reality show for children, those who landed up with big ideas of performing daredevil stunts faced tough resistance from the caring mother figure Geeta Kapur. Not once did she allow a child to enact anything that could put their little bodies at risk.
Take the case of Kaushik Rana who came to the Kolkata auditions with his mother and a bunch of tubelights in his hand. When Geeta saw the tubelights in his hands, her antennas immediately went up and she smelt trouble. She asked the mother what the act was all about. Even as the lady explained that her kid was extremely brave and adept at smashing tubelights on his back and arms, Geeta emphatically said “NO!” She thundered, “How can you expect me to allow such a performance? You are his mother for Christ’s sake! Do you not worry about what could happen if one of the sharp pieces cut your own son? I will allow Kaushik to perform only if he is willing to let go of the tubelights and dance without them”
Even as the mother-son duo pleaded with Geeta Ma saying they were very confident the child would manage the stunt just fine and not get hurt in the process, the judge did not give in to their repeated requests. Speaking of the incident, Geeta said “I find it ridiculous to see the extents to which pushy parents will go to ensure that their child gets selected. This is a dance reality show for kids. I do not see any reason why there should be acts here that could endanger the kids’ safety, health and overall well-being.”
With this “Ma” determined to protect the children from any harm, DID L’il Masters sure looks like a safe playground for India’s best child dancers to bloom and evolve into dancing stars. Stay tuned to Knorr Soupy Noodles DID L’il Masters every Saturday and Sunday at 9 PM
