Kashmir : The Centre for Human Development is setting up an “All Women – Rural Trade Centre” in Dialgam Anantnag, Kashmir. The Centre will enable rural women to earn their livelihood. The Centre will create opportunities for rural women to do trade/business in rural areas. The main aim is to create visibility of Kashmiri women in trade/business.
The objectives of setting up the Centre is to make women self-reliant, to make a collective force of likeminded business women in rural areas of Kashmir, have interactive discussions, share market knowledge and get more exposure, to ultimately become more social and economically empowered.
During our field work we found that for women’s economic empowerment personal and leadership development are very important. But are often a missing component of the conversation. For many women and girls, access to empowering resources such as capital, education is insufficient to overcome their own hesitations, whether a lack of confidence or poor soft skills and emotional intelligence, all of which are necessary to effectively lead oneself and others.
Therefore, the Rural Trade Centre will act as a resource centre in developing such soft skills among rural women. Through the Rural Trade Centre women will not only be encouraged to do peripheral jobs of business like making and collecting of products but will be encouraged to go for selling, buying, marketing and B2B (Business to Business)
The inauguration of the Rural Trade Centre is on March 5, 2015
