Prof. YK Chawla, Director, PGI inaugurated an Automated Hematology Analyzer in the Hematology laboratory facility of the Department of Pediatrics, Advanced Pediatric Centre at PGI on 29th November, 2011 in the presence of Prof. Sunit Singhi, Head, Department of Pediatrics and Prof. R.K. Marwaha.
The state-of-the-art equipment can process upto 50 samples per hour. This would aid in generating reports within a few hours for the tiny tots. Besides improving turnover time and reducing patient waiting time, it would reduce work load of the overburdened main Hematology Department. The day coincided with the first examination in DM Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, with the first candidate appearing for the exam.
PGI is the only centre in India, offering a 3-year training course in the super-specialty. The training course is aimed at initiating and augmenting care of children with cancers and blood diseases throughout the country. A consolidated care for children with cancers is being provided at the APC. Besides dedicated cancer & blood disease clinics for children, a chemotherapy day care is being run as well. The outlook of children with cancers has significantly improved in the recent years, thanks to the upgraded services.
The Advanced Pediatrics Centre is one of the largest children hospitals in India, highly renowned for training and patient care. Prof. Chawla congratulated Prof. Sunit Singhi, Head, Department of Pediatrics & Prof R K Marwaha on their efforts in establishing and strengthening the hematology laboratory services in APC.
