Chandigarh, May 19th: “With the Commonwealth Games drawing near, the India’s first big international sports event since the 1982 Asian Games, the Chandigarh Administration is beaming with pride and all geared up to play an active role in this prestigious event, said Sh.Ram Niwas, Home Secretary UT in a meeting convened, to began the preparations to welcome the International and National sports persons as well as the speculators and tourists from all over the countries. The meeting was attended by MD CITCO, Director Tourism, President Hotel and Restaurant Association, officials of Chandigarh Administration ,representatives of tours and travel agencies.
Apart from those other major tourists’ destinations of India, Chandigarh too is expecting a large number of tourists during the CommonWealth Games scheduled to be held from October 4th to 13th, 2010.During the meeting, Chandigarh Administration and Hotel Association have discussed various innovative ideas and activities to involve Chandigarh in promoting itself on the international map during this international event. Since, Chandigarh attracts largest number of tourists during the October as compared to other months of the year, a special tour packages have been planned for this forthcoming event by the Administration. The Home Secretary apprised the hoteliers and representative of tour and travel agencies to come up with complete tour packages from Delhi to Chandigarh and back, which will include hotel stay, sight seeing, outdoor excursions on week ends and week days. The complete information about these packages will be made available on Chandigarh Tourism website.
To involve the citizens of Chandigarh during the forth coming Common Wealth Games, it has been decided that all hotels and restaurant will be fully involved to promote these games by providing special menus on games. Besides this, special decor will be created to gel with the Common Weath game theme ,so that people can enjoy sumptuous food while watching games on big screens to be put up in the Hotels and Restaurants. The Chandigarh Administration and the Hotel Association deiced to put larger than live replicas of sports items and utilities so as to build in an atmosphere with an idea of making it different. It was further decided that hotels will also provide special discounts to the visitors during this period.
The Commonwealth game Baton will arrive in the city on July 3rd, 2010 in Sports complex Sector 7. A special programme has been drafted for this. It will be vibrantly welcomed by Chandigarh Administration ,sports persons and citizens of Chandigarh too. On this day, hotels will provide special discounts and hold various activities.
Chandigarh will be in full swing to be celebrate the forthcoming international event. The preparations will begin one week before to make it success in all respect. Special cultural programmes and other various cultural activities will be arranged during these days . All hotels and restaurant will hold events individually at their own level including food festivals. The Chandigarh Tourism will bring out special brochures containing all important information about the tourist places in Chandigarh. In addition to this, all taxi drivers and auto rickshaw drivers will be specially trained in workshops to be conducted by the Chandigarh Tourism to facilitate them to communicate with tourists visiting the city specially the international tourists. Additional tourist guides having proficiency in English, Hindi and French will be made available for the international tourist visiting Chandigarh.
