Chandigarh: Doping scandal has surface in the kabaddi (circle style) discipline in the build up days to the global tournament slated to be held in Punjab.
Around ten players have tested positive for banned substances who had reported for selection trials for the second edition of the World cup kabaddi tournament beginning November 1, in Punjab.
According to Rahul Bhatnagar director general of National Anti Doping Agency (NADA), the number of dope cheats would further swell up as results of only 21 urine samples have been received by his office.
During the selections trials held at at Ludhiana on October 5, NADA had collected a total of 51 urine samples. The first notices along with provisional suspension have been issued to the concerned players. The prohibited substances found in these cases were stanozolol, boldenone, nandrolone and phentermine.
NADA is taking the doping episode seriously as due to such high percentage of doping in kabaddi the overall impact on the doping scenario is affected thereby sending a wrong signal to the sporting world regarding the dope control activities of India.
NADA has also communicated to Punjab’s director sports Pargat Singh about the issue.
