20 Oct : The department of Radiodiagnosis PGIMER, Chandigarh under the able guidance of Prof. N. Khandelwal, Head of the department, organized the first J.S. Sodhi Memorial Oration and Alumni meet today with great enthusiasm. More than 50 Alumni who are now renowned radiologists in the country and abroad assembled under one roof to pay respect to the first Head of the department, Prof. J.S. Sodhi.
The day started off with a visit of the Alumni to the department of Radiodiagnosis followed by introduction of the alumni in the lecture theatre. There were many light moments with guests sharing interesting anecdotes with their colleagues about their student days.
In the afternoon there was a talk on “Astrology & Science” by eminent personality and celebrity in the field of astrology, Mr. P Khurrana, who captivated the audience with his elegant sermon on astrology and his observation on the relevance of astrology with respect to modern medical science. The next talk was on “Art of Living” by Dr. Sushma Vashisht , former Head of the department, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. She stressed the importance of being good humans and gave guidance for relieving stress and anxiety.
The main attraction of the progamme was the first oration in the memory of Professor J.S Sodhi which was delivered by Dr. Sanjay Saini, Professor of Radiology at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA. He spoke on “Indian Radiology in a flat world”. In his informative talk he discussed about the industrialization of radiology. He stressed the need for Indian radiologists to develop partnerships across borders in order to make the radiology services cheaper and better. He also indicated that such endeavours should be under the purview of strong professional bodies and self regulation in order to ensure quality services.
Prof. K.K Talwar, Director of the Institute and several former directors and senior professors graced the occasion.
