15 Feb : The Fortis Healthy Heart golf tournament was held at the Chandigarh Golf Club on 14th February. The purpose of this tournament was to promote a healthy lifestyle among the senior citizens and educate them about the causes and prevention of heart disease. Co-sponsored by the Chandigarh Golf Club and Fortis more than 50 participants aged between 60 – 86 years took part on a stableford format based on ¾ handicap. Players in the 60 – 70 age group played 18 holes whereas players in the 70 – 86 years category played just 9 holes.
In the 60 – 65 years category Brig. PPS Dhillon won with 36 points followed by GS Bedi at 35 points. The 66 – 70 years category saw SD Verma take the honours with 42 points leaving BS Grewal in second place with 38 points. In the 71 – 75 years category Capt. JS Sahi won with 20 points while Col. KS Sandhu secured the runners-up position with 18 points. SS Rao took the title in the 76 – 80 years category with 25 points whereas TC Chopra came in second with 17 points. In the 81 – 85 years category AS Bhinder won with 20 points leaving Brig. KS Sandhu at the runners-up position with 19 points. The oldest participant of the tournament was Capt. Shamsher Singh who scored 12 points. Mr. Ashish Bhatia, regional director of Fortis healthcare, Col. HS Chehal, director of Fortis Mohali and Dr. Manmeet Mann, head of media and communications gave away the prizes to the winners. Dr. JS Varma, director of Cardiology also gave a speech regarding the potential causes of heart disease. Fortis healthcare thanked the President of Chandigarh Golf BS Gill and Hony. Secretary Nippy Ghai for their support without which this tournament would not have been possible.
