Chandigarh, March 10, 2012:The 3 day Fortis International Liver Summit ended today on a successful note. The delegates discussed about the latest research and trends and resolving to further step up their efforts to combat liver disease and create public awareness on one could safeguard oneself from this deadly disease. There were 48 international Hepatologists from 17 countries and 56 national Hepatologists who participated in the Summit.
The delegates discussed a number of pro-active steps to focus attention on the causes of Liver Disease, especially Hepatitis B and Non-Alcohol Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD).” Another key area that was focussed upon was to create awareness on voluntary donation of liver. According toDr. Arvind Sahni, Organising Chairman of FILSandDirector, Department of Gastroenterology, Fortis Hospital, Mohali, “High on the agenda was a resolve from the delegates to focus public and government attention on Liver Diseases. Although, globally, Liver Disease was taking an epidemic-like form and there were over 70 million people with liver cirrhosis, yet not much was being done in a number of countries, including India.
