Chandigarh, September 7, 2013: Fortis Hospital Mohali today organized a walkathon at Sukhna Lake to Mark World Physiotherapy Day in which over 120 persons enthusiastically participated. World Physical Therapy Day (or Physiotherapy Day) is organized on September 8 each year to raise awareness about the crucial contribution the profession makes to keeping people well, mobile and independent.
Chandigarh DC Mr Mohammad Shayin flagged off the Walkathon, which comprised Fortis doctors and senior management, apart from patients. Many regular walkers at the lake also joined in the event, taking forward the message of ‘Fit for Future’. From Fortis senior management, Regional Director Col HS Chehal and Facility Director Abhijit Singh led the walkers with gusto. The hospital’s Physiotherapy Department, led by Dr Priyanka Arora and her team, explained workouts and exercises to the walkers and talked about the importance of correct posture. From Fortis Hospital Mohali, Dr Swapna Misra (Sr Consultant – Gynaecology), Dr Manoranjan Sahoo (Director – Anesthesia), Dr Atul Joshi (Sr Consultant, Dept of Surgery), Dr Rishi Mangat and Dr Jasbir Kaur (Medical Coordinators), apart from many senior doctors, were present. Before flagging off the walk, the DC and senior Fortis management launched the physiotherapy brochure.
“Physiotherapists assess the patient’s level of mobility, strength, endurance and other physical abilities to determine the impact of their illness or injury on their physical function, whether at work, rest or play,” said Col HS Chehal, talking about the department’s core functioning. He applauded the team for helping people prevent potential health problems from occurring by sharing knowledge on correct posture and teaching stress-relieving exercises.
After completing the walkathon, the participants enjoyed refreshments and got their free medical checkup done. They were also provided free physiotherapy consult on the occasion.
