The 4th World Congress of Science and Medicine in Cricket begins with the Plenary Lectures of Dr.Richard Stretch from South Africa on Review of Batting and Marc Portus from Australia on The business of science and medicine in cricket: A guide for cricket Administrations.These lectures will be chaired by Prof.Bruce Elliot from Australia and Dr.Thurairaja from SriLanka respectively.
This will be followed by a session of Invited talks, in which Dr.AkshaiMansingh Singh from West Indies speaks on Injuries in West Indies Cricket:Have things changed in past 5 years. Dr.Thurairaja presents the SriLankan viewpoint on Elite training in young cricketers of Sri lanka, and Dr.Sohail from Pakistan focuses on Insight into sports medicine in Pakistan Cricket.Subsequently two simultaneous Symposiums begin in 2 adjacent halls. Orthopaedic aspect of cricket specific Injuries is being deliberated in this section. Knee injuries in cricket by Dr.Anant Joshi,Hand injuries in cricket by Dr.Sudhir Warrier, Hip problems in cricket by Dr.Vikas Khanduja from U K, Posterior Ankle impingement in fast bowlers:Is this a new epidemic by Dr.Akshai Mansingh(WI) are to be discussed.
Next session will witness Dr.Marc Portus (of Cricket Australia)as chairperson for the Plenary lecture by Prof.Bruce Elliot on Analysis of cricket skills:A Biomechanical Approach
A symposium on Doping in cricket, chaired by Lorinda Rugless, ICC representative and Dr.S Manjura (S Africa) would cover different topics like Developing Anti-Doping practice in cricket by Lorinda Rugless, Doping and its relevance to cricket by S Manjura (S Africa), Doping in cricket:where does India stand today by Manmohan Singh (Chairman IOC Medical Commission) and Gene Doping by Ashok Ahuja. In the meantime,Farasat Hussain (President Indian Association Sports Medicine) will be coordinating Miscellaneous topics covering The effects of playing a game like suduko on mental preparation for batting (MS Taliep, S Africa),The Wicket keeper’s hand by Dr.Ravi Gupta, Knee OCD in fast bowlers by Dr.Saleem (Pakistan), A New Taxonomic system of bowling action types in cricket by R Fernandez ( Australia) and Activity of abdominal wall muscle during rotation task in adolescent cricket fast bowlers with low back pain by Gray J (South Africa).
A symposium focused entirely on Bowling is being chaired by Bruce Elliot and Daryl Foster. This will include deliberations on topics like Back Injuries to fast bowlers in cricket by Marc Portus (Australia), Biomechanics and performance of spin bowling by Wayne Spratford (Australia), Latest developments in the measurement of elbow extension in bowlers by Dr.Jacquline Alderson(Australia). Hall-B will host a Symposium on Psychology in cricket where Dr.Sahni will be deliberating on Psychology of Elite cricketers, Ali Irani on Brain Mapping in cricket, and DT Crombie (S Africa) will be deliberating on The role of intelligence in sports performance in cricket.
