CHANDIGARH, SEPT 20 : Sumit Hooda put up a fine all-round performance ( 42, 2 for 7) to enable Godrej & Boyce XI overcame a stiff resistance from United Sports Club by 12 runs in the IInd Prakash Devi Arora Memorial League Cricket Tournament being organised by Chandigarh Sports Club here today.
Batting first after winning the toss, Godrej had a disappointing start as they lost their first wicket in the first over itself when Umesh Kaira lofted an easy catch to mid on. Skipper Vaneet Chawla and Inderjeet followed suit in quick succession and they were reeling at 9 for 3 in three overs. Sumit Hooda who came in at seven down played a defiant innings of 42 His knock came in just 22 balls, including three fours and an equal number of sixes. His innings, helped Godrej to get to a total of 133 for 7 in 20 overs.
Mohit picked up three wickets for 39 runs in his 4-over spell.
In reply, United Sports were again stung by Sumit as he bagged 2 consecutive wickets in his very first over. Thereafter Aatish partnered with Lakhan Shandil to get his team to 72 for 3 in 13 overs. Aatish remained not out 46 off 46 balls. He, however, did not get any support from his teammates and as a result United Sports Club were short by 12 runs.

In the second match of the day, Rana Engg. brushed away competition by City Cricket Club . City CC batting first were bowled out for 96 runs in 17.2 overs. In reply, Rana Engg got the target easily in 12 overs for the loss of 3 wickets.. Radhey was the top scorer along with Rajesh both contributing 34 runs each.
