The Mumbai Indians lost what was the closest game in the DLF Indian Premier League (IPL) when they were outdone at their home ground by Kings XI Punjab for 1 run. After a valiant half-century coming in quick time by their skipper Sachin Tendulkar, who set the tone for a thrilling match, two runs off the last ball proved too much for the tail-enders.
Speaking at a post-match press conference, Tendulkar He admitted that chasing 190 in 120 balls was never easy but said that when they needed 34 from just 24 balls, they should have kept their wickets intact.
However the captain, who returned to form in this match, was kind to his youngsters revealing the advice he gave them before going out to bat in a match that had pressure written all over it.
"I told the youngsters not to worry about the result and to just go out and give their best. I told them, ‘Do whatever your instincts tell you to do, do not worry about the result’. I’m quite happy with the way they played."
Tendulkar said that he was aware that the loss against the Mohali franchise makes it tougher for his team to secure a semi-final berth but he added that it was a good feeling chasing 190 and falling short by 1 run. He also said that Mumbai are taking it one game at a time and will now turn their attention to their next game against Delhi Daredevils.
He was all praise for the youngsters of his side especially Abhishek Nayar saying, "Abhishek batted very well. He has played some important innings right throughout the tournament. I’m sure in the next two games he’s going to do the job for us. He’s exceptionally talented and we all have high regards for him."
The Master Blaster was happy that even though they lost the game, all the youngsters contributed in the best possible manner and his team never gave up hope.
Mumbai Indians next face Delhi Daredevils in what will be a crucial encounter for both sides who are vying for a semi-final berth.
