Chandigarh : World tuberculosis day was celebrated by School of Public Health, PGIMER at Burail village, Chandigarh. The theme for the year 2012 is ‘Stop Tuberculosis in my Life Time’ There was a gathering of around fifty local residents comprising antenatal and postnatal mothers, anganwadi workers and adolescents. Health workers and lady health visitor of Polyclinic-45 were present. Dr. Kathirvel.S, Junior Resident, School of Public Health delivered a health talk on tuberculosis. An overview about TB- it symptoms, need to consult health care personnel, role of sputum examination and initiate treatment was provided.
Proper disposal of sputum and other precautions to prevent TB in the community were also stressed upon. Considering the composition of the crowd emphasis was given on TB in pregnancy and children. At the end of the talk queries from the audience were addressed.
