Chandigarh, 28 April 2025 — In a late-night announcement, the Chandigarh Administration declared that 29th April 2025 will be observed as a public holiday on the occasion of Parshuram Jayanti.
According to the official press release, the holiday will be applicable to all Government Offices, Boards, Corporations, Institutions, and Industrial Establishments operating under the Chandigarh Administration. Employees across these sectors will be granted leave to mark the auspicious occasion.
However, the Administration clarified that this holiday will not be recognized as a public holiday under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881. Consequently, financial institutions like banks are expected to remain open as per their normal schedule.
According to senior BJP leader former Mayor Arun Sood, the President of Hindu Mahasabha, Mr. B.P. Arora, and the President of Shri Brahmin Sabha Chandigarh, Mr. Yashpal Tiwari, brought to my attention the demand for the declaration of a public holiday in Chandigarh on the auspicious occasion of Bhagwan Parshuram Jayanti. Immediately, I spoke to the Honorable Governor, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria Ji, and even while traveling, he listened to my request and promptly announced the holiday for Parshuram Jayanti.
I express my heartfelt gratitude to Shri Gulab Chand Kataria Ji for this. The announcement has been welcomed by various cultural and social organizations that had been advocating for official recognition of Parshuram Jayanti.
