The New Education Policy announced on 29th July, 2020 is a plan of action to revolutionize the current system of education in the country. The present management of entire education system has a British stamp on it and NEP is a bold effort to erase it. Prof. B.K. Kuthiala Chairperson, Haryana State Higher Education Council has stated most important proposition is to merge general, vocational and professional education and also to bring the entire education system under one umbrella. In fact, if various components of the new policy are sincerely implemented, within five years the nation can expect to witness a long awaiting change in the character capabilities and skills of the youngsters.
The policy also visualizes a significant enhancement of research activities relevant for the rejuvenation of the country. The autonomy of all institutes of higher learning has been ensured by providing better management structures. The New Policy erases the deceptive boundaries between various disciplines of knowledge. A science student can now also opt for papers in liberal arts or music. Proper training of all teachers including those of Colleges and Universities has been proposed. The existing Colleges and Universities are to be re-organized so as to ensure special areas of excellence in institutes of higher learning. The target set for the school education is to enrol 100 percent children and to enrol half the population of youngsters in higher education. Very important proposition is to create a distinction between teaching colleges and research colleges. Another path breaking target is to end the system of affiliating colleges. All higher education institution will either be Universities or Degree granting autonomous colleges. This way a new system of higher education is likely to emerge that will enable youngsters to be active partners in the process of nation making.
Haryana State Higher Education Council has been studying and discussing the draft education policy released a year ago. Council has prepared a plan of action to initiate action on the declared New Education Policy. We have resolved to implement the changes fast so that the youth of Haryana get maximum benefits of the new policy without loss of time.
