By Ankur Vadhera : A National level conference ICAER‘12 (IEEE Conference on Cognizance of Applied Engineering and Research) was organized by IEEE Chapter of University Institute of Engineering and Technology, Panjab University, Chandigarh on 6th Oct. 12 in the Golden Jubilee hall of the University in which 29 papers were shortlisted out of 68 papers and were presented by the students of IIIT Allahabad, PEC, GNDU Amritsar, UIET and other colleges of India.
The conference began with presenting the bouquets to the dignitaries followed by lamp lightning and release of proceedings. Director of UIET, Prof. Renu Vig gave the introductory speech regarding the importance of higher studies and research and was of the view that writing the research paper is just the tip of the iceberg and one must also share the research on all platforms. Guests of Honour for the conference were Mr. R.C. Agnihotri, Principal, ISTC, CSIO, Mr. Neelesh Kumar, Senior Principal Scientist in CSIR-CSIO and Prof. Sanjay Kaushik, UBS, Panjab University.
Mr. R.C. Agnihotri was of the opinion that higher studies should not be a second option for engineering students and gave insightful tips on how to write a research paper.
He was followed by Mr. Neelesh Kumar who took the concept of writing a technical paper one step further by telling the audience about the motivations and requisites for writing a research paper. He stated that the first and the foremost step is to understand and have the knowledge of what others are doing and what are their limitations.
After the expert talk of Mr. Neelesh Kumar, Prof. Sanjay Kaushik addressed the audience regarding the change in the expectations of the industries in the present scenario, stating that industry does not only want someone who is good but also someone who is also job fit. Shrugging the luck factor, he quoted, “I find that the harder I work, the more luck I seem to have.”
It was followed by the vote of thanks by Prof. Y.P. Verma, Branch Counsellor of IEEE UIET. He highlighted the fact that ICAER was started with an aim to promote and motivate research among engineering students and it has lived upto its expectations. He also congratulated the authors for their research work.
Then there was the presentation session in which students had to present their papers and the presentation session was divided into four categories: first for computer science and IT students, second for mechanical students, third electronics and fourth for Electrical students. After the students gave their presentations, winners were declared. Ansuya Ahluwalia and Akshit Maurya from PEC and UIET respectively won the prize for the “Best Paper pzeresentation”. Rishab Auri and Rohit Kashyap from UIET won the second p rize. Mohit Bagga from UIET and Mahavir Singh from CCA, Chandigarh jointly won third prize. Event ended with an appreciation speech from Chief guests and jury.
