Archit Watts, Chandigarh, August 7 : To upgrade the basic civic amenities and services for the residents of UT villages, UT Gram Panchayats have undertaken various developmental projects at an estimated
cost of Rs. 1,95,44,450 during 2008-09, of which most of the projects have been completed. This was disclosed in a meeting held under the chairmanship of UT Finance Secretary, Mr. Sanjay Kumar.
The meeting was attended by all the panches and sarpanches of villages and the concerned officials.
In the meeting, the panches and sarpanches threw light on the works completed by Gram Panchayats during the year. Giving details of the works completed, the officials
revealed that an amount of Rs. 31,27,250 have been utilized for construction of boundary wall of panchayat land at village Khuda Ali sher, boundary wall of cremation ground and concretization of path approaching to cremation ground
at village Sarangpur, retaining wall of village pond and repair of ghats in village Dhanas and dharamshala in village Kaimbwala.
The officials further disclosed that Panchayats have completed works related to laying of RCC storm water drainage line for disposal of waste water at village Kishangarh and Khuda Lahora at an estimated cost of Rs. 19,13,450.
A total of Rs. 6,10,600 have also been incurred on renovation of lavatory block at village Khuda Jassu and village Behlana. Besides, works related to conversion of
surface drains into underground system by laying of RCC pipes in all streets of village Sarangpur and Kishangarh, laying of RCC storm water drainage at village Behlana and filling of pond in SC locality at village Khuda Alisher are under progress.
Along with the aforesaid developmental works, the Administration has also planned to construct sports stadium in Village Kaimbwala at an estimated cost of Rs. 1 crore, community center at Dhanas, Janj Ghar in village Makhan Majra at an estimated cost of Rs. 55 lacs, bridge on ganda nallah in Mauli Jagran. The officials also informed that construction of Community Centre at village Sarangpur will be completed by November 11, 2009.
To improve the education and health infrastructure in the villages, the Administration has also initiated the process of upgrading the Government High School to 10+2 level in Raipur Khurd, Daria, Khuda Ali sher, Khuda Lahora and Behlana. The Middle Schools in Village Raipurkalan, Makhan Majra and Kishangarh are being upgraded to High standard.
The Administration has further taken up work of raising the standard of health services delivered in Health Sub Center of Behlana to the level of Civil Dispensary.
Lakshman Singh, Sarpanch, Raipur Khurd, proposed for the setting up of cremation ground and upgrading the existing schools. He further requested for the
conversion of existing pond into playground for children and installation of Tube well for drinking water in the village.
