The India Post, Chandigarh, 10th February, 2009 : The Youth Welfare Department, Panjab University, for the first time has been bestowed upon with the honour of hosting a very prestigious event of the 4TH South Asian Universities Youth Festival from 12th to 16th February, 2009 at campus of Panjab University, Chandigarh in collaboration with Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi.
More than175 youth artists from 22 South Asian Universities from India and abroad will participate in the youth festival. The youth artists from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Mauritius, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Maldives and India will be joining the SAUFEST to participate in the cultural activities in the fields of music, theatre, fine arts, folk art, heritage, quiz, poetical symposium, debates, dances and painting, etc.
To add colour to this mega event, the participants will enjoy kite flying one day and Debate on topic, Youth is the most potent force to promote peace in South Asian Region. They will be taken to Rock Garden, Sukhna Lake and Pinjore Garden for sight seeing.
The SAUFEST has been dedicated to the theme of promoting international peace and development. The South Asian Universities Youth Festival (SAUFEST) will promote the active collaboration and mutual assistance among the South Asian countries in educational, social, cultural and economic fields.
The Youth Festivals are dedicated to our youth who symbolize courage, initiatives, exuberance and idealism. Such youth meets instill in the youth awareness and respect for our historical and cultural heritage thereby inculcating in them a sense of pride and national identity. In the SAUFEST youth cultural troupes from various South Asian countries are participating which will help in projecting the composite cultural heritage of the South Asian heritage.
The cultural activities will take place at University Auditorium. A number of very eminent personalities are expected to grace the occasion, as Chief Guests for inaugural or valedictory functions according to Dr. S. M. Kant, Director Youth Welfare
