Chandigarh, August 12; Today, to strengthen the ongoing ‘Green School Programme’ through Eco Clubs in School, Department of Environment, Chandigarh Administration in collaboration with Centre of Science & Environment, New Delhi (CSE) and Yuvsatta an NGO started a two day Master Trainers Training Programme for around 60 prominent Schools of the city at Botanical Garden, Chandigarh.
Launching the initiative Santosh Kumar, IFS, Conservator of Forests cum Director, Department of Environment, Chandigarh Administration shared that to further strengthen the ongoing Green initiatives, they soon will be dividing the city into ten clusters, where in there Department will support Best Eco-club of a Cluster which will further take care of ten other Schools in its vicinity to sensitize more & more students & teachers on environmental issues & activities.
Sharing information about the Project Ashish from CSE said that “the Green Schools Programme envisages self-assessment of the environmental practices of the school by its students using a comprehensive Green Schools Manual, which enables the children to connect to deeper environmental issues. And the end result will be a ‘report card’ of the school prepared by its own students regarding environmental practices. And instead of subjects like Maths and History, the subjects are Water, Air, Land, Energy and Waste.”
Prominent amongst those who addressed the teachers includes Saurabh Kumar, DCF, Department of Forests, PJS Dhadwal, Addl. Director, Department of Environment, Chandigarh Administration & Parmod Sharma, Coordinator, Yuvsatta.
Tomorrow, at the valedictory function of the aforesaid training programme, at 3 p.m., at Botanical Garden Santosh Kumar, IAS, Secretary Finance cum Environment, Chandigarh Administration will honour the best three Eco-Clubs of Schools of Chandigarh with cash prizes & mementos.
