Jorawer Singh, Chandigarh, August 14, 2009: Promising quality theater, sprinkled with breathtaking music, scintillating dance performances and outstanding direction, Manch Tantra is on a spree to rope in more fresh talent to infuse life into Theater at Chandigarh. The last production of the group, a Hindi-English Comedy “Salt n Pepper” boasting of over 1600 audience had to be restaged this year too!
The society registered in 2003, still gets full professional support from its president, Rochak Kohli, currently creative director at Big FM, Mumbai and Ayushmann Khurana, another founder member, a VJ on MTV. Manch Tantra had given a launch pad to many of its member including Gurpreet saini, Exectuive Producer, who is currently shooting for Thank You Jija Ji, a Jaspal Bhatti Production’s Serial for SAB TV .
Aviral Gupta, who had joined the group in 2004, and has been a actor, choreographer is excited to see another member of his group, Vikas Sharma, as an Assistant Director in the latest Hindi flick “Kaminey”. Aviral explains “The aspirants after facing the tough Audition rounds are exposed to rigorous theater workshops before taking them on as members.”
Boasting of the current member strength of 60 , Manch Tantra has already staged six regular plays and two street plays. Rashi, a law student, who also doubles up as costume incharge and production manager for the group, is committed to bring life to the otherwise dull theater, which she rues “only concentrates on serious looking, old and repetitive issues”.
“Our primary objective is entertainment, creating more theater viewers and for that we plan to churn out plays on diverse topics but promise original music, lyrics, dances to portray theater as a complete art-form” says Sukriti Wadhera, another founder members, already having a bronze medal at Cannes Advertising Festival to her credit.
Complaining about cost of promotion, advertisement and Auditorium charges adds Sukriti “still we are able to generate sufficient funds as we experiment with new topics like creating ‘Painter Babu’ out of R K Narayan’s , ‘Painter of Signs’.”
