Manoj Godara, Chandigarh, October 22: The Panjab University has been ranked number one on the list of all Indian Universities and colleges on the basis of a high credibility research conducted of the world institutions by the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore .The comparisons of institutions, inter alia, were based on the number of journal publications and citations, such as the number of papers and citations per faculty per year.
The Panjab University with an index calculation of 59.45 topped the list followed by University of Delhi, University of Hyderabad, Banaras Hindu University and Anna University in order of ranking.
In case of the US Universities, five from the top 10 and five from the top 20 to 50 universities were chosen based on overall ranking for all disciplines .The MIT, University of California at Berkeley (UCB), California Institute of technology (Caltech) and University of Minnesota (Uminn) ranked in the first category.
In the publication profile of various institutions in chemistry, Tsing Hua University of China topped the list with 3156 publications followed by University of California, Berkeley with 2982 publications. The Indian scenario showed that the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology had 2072 publications followed by National Chemical Laboratory with 1758 publications. In the case of chemical engineering Tianjin University of China topped with 1485 papers followed by MIT with 1313.
The research also included electrical, civil and mechanical engineering, physics and chemical engineering, classifying these separately.
