19 Sep : The celebrations of Navratras, the festival of nine nights dedicated to the worship of Goddess Durga and her nine forms, begins today as festivities kick off far and wide among Hindus all across India.
The auspicious occasion of Navratras is celebrated as a win of good against all odds.It is ritualistic to keep a fast on these days, worship Goddess Durga with purity, along with the traditional culture of singing and dancing as dusk descends.
The first day of ashwin coincides and marks the end of the rainy season. It is believed that Goddess Durga, the divine mother had destroyed the evil force Mahishasura, who was in the form of buffalo demon.
