At the recently concluded 27th Annual Congress of European Association of Urology at Paris, the research work entitled “Prophylactic effect of Tribulus terrestris fruits on experimentally induced urolithiasis in rats”, presented by Dr. S. K. Singh (Prof. of Urology, PGIMER, Chandigarh) was adjudged as one of the best papers (posters). There were more than 13,000 participants in the Congress from more than 116 countries. The study to investigate the antilithiatic effect of Tribulus terrestris (common name – Gokhru) was sponsored by DBT, Govt. of India. In a group of animals (male Wistar rats) administered only with oxalate genesis material (ethylene glycol), there was an extensive deposition of oxalate crystals in the kidney, however, concurrent use of extract of fruits of Tribulus terrestris (common name – Gokhru) was effective in preventing genesis of oxalate stones.
This work was conducted by PhD scholar, Anshu Aggarwal, at Jaypee University of Information Technology (JUIT), Waknaghat, Solan (H.P.) under the supervision of Dr. Chanderdeep Tandon, Prof. of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, JUIT, Dr. S.K.
