Chandigarh, November 17:- The coverage of 1,30,507 number of 0-5 years old children during the Pulse Polio Immunization Campaign, 2nd Mop Up Round held from November 15 to 17, 2009 reflects the awareness and commitment level of residents of Chandigarh residing in various sectors, slums and colonies. The campaign could be successfully carried out due to the enthusiastic contribution by the residents by bringing their children to the booths on the first day of the activity and the cooperation extended by them during the next two days when house to house activity was carried out to cover the left out children. The positive reflection during this campaign about the residents proves that not only are the residents aware but they are willing, voluntary and enthusiastic participants themselves.
The relentless and tireless efforts of Health Department bore fruits only under the dynamic guidance of UT Health Secretary, Mr. Ram Niwas, Mission Director (NRHM)-cum-Director Health and Family Welfare and the Joint Director Health and Family Welfare cum Medical Superintendent GMSH-16, Chandigarh. Various Non-Government Organizations, Religious Leaders, Municipal Councilors of Chandigarh also contributed in the campaign by mobilizing the children for the vaccination at booths itself.
The campaign could not have been completed without the support of Social Welfare and Education Department of Chandigarh Administration. The vaccinators were provided by PGIMER and Nursing Colleges. Zeal and dedication to the cause contributed by NSS volunteers from various colleges and schools is also appreciated.
Independent monitors deputed by World Health Organization inspected various areas of Chandigarh and appreciated the awareness created by the efforts made by Chandigarh Administration and also for the quality of services and management of successful campaign
