2 Feb : Gujarat CM Narendra Modi has announced that he plans to allocate Rs 1000 crore for women self help groups (SHGs) under the scheme ‘Mission Mangalam’ to help poor get rid of the debts.
“Women SHGs have shown a way by successfully implementing savings and loan schemes for the poor and saving debt-ridden persons from money-lenders who have been exploiting them,” Modi said while addressing the Garib Kalyan Mela in Dahod on Monday.
“We plan to allocate Rs 1000 crore under the ‘Mission Mangalam’ to 1.25 lakh women SHGs this year for their saving and loan related activities and save the poor from clutches of the money lenders and commission agents,” Modi said.
Under the Garib Kalyan Mela the CM distributed aides worth Rs 72 crore to over 70,000 beneficiaries from Jhalod, Dahod, Limkheda, Devgadh Baria, Dhanpur, Garbada and Fatehpura taluka of the district.
Modi said that he would ensure that all middlemen who have been exploiting the poor people be eliminated.His government has taken lead in the country in implementing Forest Right Act in the tribal areas of the state, Modi said.
