Tarn Taran, May 29 — In a major boost to technical education and digital skilling in rural Punjab, the IIT Ropar Technology and Innovation Foundation (AWaDH) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Government Polytechnic College Bhikhiwind, Tarn Taran. The collaboration aims to establish a state-of-the-art Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) Lab under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS).
The proposed CPS Lab will be equipped with advanced Internet of Things (IoT) devices, smart sensors, and industry-grade experimental kits. It is designed to offer students and faculty hands-on experience through over 100 real-world experiments in areas such as smart automation, intelligent systems, and Industry 4.0 technologies.
“This initiative represents a transformative step towards building capacity in cutting-edge technologies, fostering innovation, and enhancing employability in rural and semi-urban regions,” said Dr. Pushpendra P. Singh, Project Director at IIT Ropar AWaDH.
The partnership recognizes the leadership of Dr. Navneet Walia, Principal of Government Polytechnic College Bhikhiwind, whose proactive engagement was instrumental in making the collaboration possible. Special appreciation was also extended to faculty members Mr. Raman Kumar, Mr. Tarsem Singh, Ms. Harpreet Kaur, Mr. Dilpal Singh, and Mr. Satnam Singh for their enthusiastic support.
Leading the initiative from IIT Ropar AWaDH are Dr. Pushpendra P. Singh, Dr. Radhika Trikha (CEO), and Ms. Parry Sood (Program Manager), who reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening industry-academia partnerships and advancing grassroots innovation.
The collaboration is aligned with the broader goals of the NM-ICPS mission, which aims to create a strong ecosystem for Cyber-Physical Systems across India. Institutions interested in setting up similar CPS Labs are invited to submit their Expression of Interest and become part of this national movement.
