In a strongly-worded statement, Iran has condemned recent US airstrikes on its nuclear facilities, describing them as a “brutal military aggression” and a blatant violation of international law and the United Nations Charter. The strikes targeted three key nuclear sites—Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan—prompting Tehran to urge the United Nations and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to take immediate action.
Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, “The Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns the brutal military aggression by the United States against Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities. This is a gross violation of the most basic principles of international law and the UN Charter. The Islamic Republic holds the US government accountable for the dangerous consequences of this grave crime.”
Iran further accused Israel of collaborating in the attacks, calling it a part of a larger conspiracy to escalate regional tensions. According to Iran, the strikes violated Article 2, Paragraph 4 of the UN Charter and breached UN Security Council Resolution 2231.
Tehran emphasized that the targeted nuclear facilities were under IAEA safeguards and purely for peaceful purposes. “Iran reserves the full right to defend its national security and interests against such military aggression,” the statement added.
Calling for an emergency session of the UN Security Council, Iran also urged the IAEA Board of Governors to address the situation. The Iranian ministry accused the IAEA Director General of “blatant bias” and warned that the international community must not allow such actions to go unchecked.
The statement concluded, “It is now evident that a country claiming to be a permanent member of the Security Council has no regard for rules or ethics, and openly violates laws to serve the interests of genocidal and occupying regimes.”
