By : Archit Watts, Chandigarh, August 6 : In the wake of coming Independence Day, August 15, UT police conducted special search to nab the suspected terrorist, anti National and anti-social elements in colony No. 4, in the wee hours, here, today.
Around 75 police personnel were deployed for this purpose. The whole operation was supervised by Deputy Superintendent of Police (East) and Deputy Superintendent of Police (Operations & Training), Chandigarh.
The whole area was cordoned off through paramilitary and Punjab Police Commandos and approximately 9 search parties were put on duty to search each and every dwelling unit of the colony.
The motive behind the search was to restrict the movements of anti-national elements/terrorists in and around the area of city. A total of 63 suspects were rounded-up, later, 23 among of them were let-off, after verification by some local leaders.
A senior police official said that more such searches will be carried out in different parts of Chandigarh in future.
The police also appealed to public to remain vigilant. “The public should call at 100, 2741900, 2749194 and 2544444 if anything suspicious noticed by them”, said police.
